It displaced the stiff formality of Savile Row and the flamboyance of Italian couture alike. It did not invent minimalism—but it proved minimalism could sell, scale, and signify.

Rick Owens is a controlled system: Californian origin, 1994 launch, monochrome palette, bias-drape construction, anatomically precise model selection. It rejects noise. It also rejects variance. Its rigour is its value—and its limit.
